Why CHECKSaway Exists
General aviation in the UK is full of passion, community, and possibility — but for many people, it still feels out of reach. CHECKSaway was created to change that.
Its mission is to:
- Improve accessibility to aviation for people of all backgrounds
- Showcase the vibrancy and value of UK general aviation
- Inspire young people — especially girls like my daughter — to see themselves in aviation
- Champion neurodiverse learners and show how aviation can help them thrive
As a pilot and a parent, I’ve seen first-hand how flying can unlock confidence and capability. My daughter, who is neurodiverse, regularly flies with me. Aviation gives her structure, calm, and a sense of mastery that is hard to replicate elsewhere. Watching her light up in the cockpit has reinforced something vital: aviation isn’t just a hobby, it can be a powerful tool for personal growth.
